CPCP researchers contribute to journal's production

USC researchers James Hebert and Tom Hurley from the Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics and the Cancer Prevention and Control Program at the University of South Carolina were major contributors and functioned as the statistical coordinating center for a special supplement that was published recently in The Journal of Nutrition.

Longtime diet of smoked, grilled meat puts older women at increased risk of breast cancer

Dr. Susan E. Steck and colleagues found that postmenopausal women who consumed the most grilled, barbecued or smoked meat over their lifetimes have a 47 percent increased risk of breast cancer compared to women consuming these meats less often.

Hebert named Health Sciences Distinguished Professor

James Hebert, professor in the Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics in the Arnold School of Public Health and director of the South Carolina Statewide Cancer Prevention and Control Program, has been appointed as Health Sciences Distinguished Professor by USC President Andrew Sorensen.

August 2006 SCMA Journal focuses on cancers that afflict African-Americans in South Carolina

The soaring cancer rate among African-Americans in South Carolina is the focus of a pivotal issue of the Journal of the South Carolina Medical Association. The August 2006 edition features articles and editorial material from 47 authors across the state, making it one of the largest in the Journal's history.
